Ed Manetta
Edward J. Manetta was born in Export, Pennsylvania. A WWII naval veteran, he attended Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh before entering Herron School of Art (Indianapolis) in 1950. Upon graduating in 1954 with an M.A.E. degree, he studied in Italy on a Milliken scholarship and to Birmingham, England, on a Fullbright Teaching Fellowship. For 26 years he taught at St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY, where he also served as Chairman of Fine Arts. During this time he had the opportunity to travel to Budapest, Hungary, as Acting Dean of the College Europa program. He also traveled to Taipei Taiwan as an artist-in-residence. Upon retirement in 1989 from St. John’s, he was invited to be visiting professor at Hunan Normal University in Changsha, China. For his cultural contributions, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree from Hunan Normal University. He finished his career as an associate professor of fine art at his alma mater, Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. Edward passed away on April 29, 2010 at the age of 87.
